Choose your course

• Basic RPO – Friday 11 December (1 day): AED 999. The core radiation protection course on the FANR curriculum, with a CPD certificate (7 CPD points).
• Advanced RPO – Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December (2 days): AED 1,999. The Day 1 basic course plus a second day on the practical Radiation Protection Officer role, with a CPD certificate (14 CPD points).
• Dental Radiology – Friday 11 December (1 day): AED 999 AED 399. Radiation protection for dental X-ray practice on the FANR curriculum, for dentists, dental nurses and dental radiographers.

Course description

This course presents the basic principles of radiation protection, including the responsibilities of staff to patients, personnel and the public, to guide safe practice in your workplace. It covers the requirements of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) and the importance of complying with them.

Course aim

By the end of the course, participants will be able to critically assess radiation exposure risks associated with the use, storage and disposal of radioactive materials in a medical facility.

• Radiation quantities and measurements
• Biological effects of ionising radiation, including molecular and cellular effects

• Principles of radiation protection and the international framework
• FANR regulatory control
• Radiation protection and safety programmes in diagnostic radiology
• Assessment of external and internal exposure
• Protection against occupational exposure
• Medical exposure in diagnostic radiology
• Radiation safety committees, FANR licensing procedures and training
